So, you basically want the two routers to bridge the gap between your house and shed? It's certainly doable. The router in the shed would have to be set up as a repeater. It would receive the signal from the main wireless router, and then repeat the signal either wirelessly or wired to the computers in the shed.

Yup, I think they also call it wireless bridging. It's a great way to get 'wireless' access for desktops if you have a spare router lying around. You might want to check out DD-WRT. It's an open source firmware upgrade that should open up bridging/repeating functionality on a router. Companies like Linksys (Cisco) try to force consumers to buy specialized wireless bridges and repeaters by removing the capabilities from their standard routers. Shame on them.

Post Re: wireless router question
Having individual cards to each computer will be slightly faster but definitely not worth the price. The only scenario where I could see that paying off is if all 5 computers needed internet/network access at the same time. Whereas the configuration with the router and cords would be bottlenecked by all the traffic going through one router, having wireless cards on each computer would put the load on the main router, potentially making it faster.

mmmm true... thanks for the help :)

would it be faster/cheaper if i dug about 1ft down and placed a pcv pipe ( with network cable running thru it ) not sure of exact distance... but 30m cable is bout $25-$30... and pipe probaly end up $5 a meter.... shouldnt be more then 10 - 15m max... so 10 meters would be $50... we have 2 spare 15meter network cables lol... would be any problems with doing it that way?

:'( stepdad tookeded the shed thingey lol o well more room 2 mod/work in :)

Lol... I think the PVC is pushing it. You can always you zip ties to tie the cable against walls or posts.

You could certainly bury a cable using PVC. I've done something similar for some landscape lighting. In the case of network cable, you'd certainly want to keep it well protected.

More like protection from digging I guess. We used to use PVC pipe with pavers layed on top to protect it when we did landscape lighting

Your options are really limited. I think underground or router really are your best 2 options.

There are options out there. Try a search for 'wireless outdoor router'.

Kinda related q -

Is there a Mobile broadband stick (usually USB, 'vodem' sorta thing) that connects via RJ45 rather than USB?
