 Re: Handheld Server
Unfortunately Craig's brake can't do the required bends so I either have to redesign or find someone with a brake capable of doing this. Potential alternative design. 2 simple alu bars along the side.

 Re: Handheld Server
I like the redesign. Granted it's not as cool as the first concept, but it's still very functional.

 Re: Handheld Server
Ok So after thinking about the redesign, it sucked and I really wanted to accomplish the first look. Since we can't achieve the "S" bend I figure I would go with 2 U-Channels with the motherboard platform on top. There will be about 16 tiny 4-40 screws countersunk to attach the top plate to the U-Channels. I had a *very* difficult time trying to achieve tapered, countersunk screw holes in SketchUp. After drawing about 16 of them, I realized there was a slight issues on the bottom. Sigh. Anyway, here is the new internal design. A bad day in SketchUp looks like this.

 Re: Handheld Server
While not as 'cool' as the multiple bends in the first one, it still looks good (and much easier to fab).

 Re: Handheld Server
So anyone know how to countersink holes in sketchup?

 Re: Handheld Server
I don't use Sketchup... but if I were using ViaCAD, I would add an inverted cone to wherever I wanted the countersink, and 'subtract' the overlapping area thereby leaving the countersink profile. I don't know how to describe it for sure...

 Re: Handheld Server
Ok, I finally found a super easy way to do it. You draw the inner hole and push it to the bottom of the taper, you then select the edge of the top of the hole, and expand it uniformly to the outer dimension of the screw head and it will follow.
I can do a video demo if anyone cares.

 Re: Handheld Server
That sounds like a pretty simple solution. A video would be nice...
